In January, one of our thematic learning units is arctic animals. As part of the arctic animal unit, we read Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? (Cable & Martin Jr.) Using pictures of animals from the story, children worked on story retelling. We had so much fun making all the animal sounds in the story! At the art learning center, students painted snowy polar bear scenes. Children enjoyed exploring the arctic animal-themed sensory learning center. We also watched a BrainPop Jr. educational video on arctic habitats!

We learned letter "J"! "J" is for the nursery rhyme, Jack and Jill! Students made Jack and Jill puppets, and used them to learn and practice the nursery rhyme. Nursery rhymes will help children build language and cognitive skills. Research has shown that learning nursery rhymes in preK will help students become better readers by the time they're eight years old.
