This week, we worked on the letter "N." "N" is for numbers, necklace, noodle, nest, and nursery rhymes. We worked on number identification to make a number collage. Working on fine motor skills, we made a noodle necklace. We reviewed nursery rhymes such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Humpty Dumpty, Mary Had a Little Lamb, and Jack and Jill. Lastly, we colored a nest, and worked on writing an uppercase and lowercase "N" for our alphabet book.

We love Pete the Cat! During music enrichment, we worked with Miss Powell to read and sing the story Pete the Cat: Wheels on the Bus. Then, using the Smart Board, we danced and learned how to sing another silly version of the song, Wheels on the Bus. At the end of music enrichment, we learned a new goodbye song. Thank you, Miss Powell! In order to celebrate the 100th day of school, we read The Kiss Box (Verburg & Cole)! In the story about a parent and child, Little Bear suggests that he and Mama Bear make a kiss box for each other, filled with a hundred kisses, so that they are able to stay connected no matter where they are. Then, we each put a hundred kisses in our kiss box!! We used the Smart Board to help us count to one hundred. This week, we worked on letter "M"! We read Goodnight Moon (Wise Brown), and painted a moon on the easel in the art center. We also read our "My Mm Book". In the book, there was a mitten, monster, monkey, moon, and mouse. When you read your books at home, make sure to find all the "M's" with your magic pointing finger! For math, we worked color identification, and sorting M&M's by color. It was so much fun!! "M" is for marble painting! Preschool students used creativity to make beautiful pink, purple, and red Valentine marble paintings. This was a new experience for most! "M" is for music. We used plastic eggs and rice to make egg shaker instruments! Students used them during music and movement with a song called "I Know a Chicken," by The Laurie Berkner Band. Now, it is one of our favorite songs! "M" is for mouse. We created a heart mouse craft for the "M" page in our ABC books, which we have been working on all school year. We enjoyed reading Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? (Bill Martin Jr/Eric Carle). We used our bodies and animal sounds to act out and retell the story. We learned about the arctic, polar bears, and other arctic animals by exploring nonfiction texts on PebbleGo. You can try PebbleGo at home: the username is region6, and the password is read. Children explored in an arctic sensory table, and then used a variety of materials to create arctic scenes. One of our favorite books is Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? (Martin Jr & Carle). We love to take turns with our brown bear puppet for one of our greetings: "Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see? I see (student's name) looking at me!" We retold the story various ways. First, each student had a character part and placed it on our story board while we read the story as a whole group. Then, we retold the story by pretending to be each animal in the story. For example, we walked like a bear, used our arms to fly like a bird, and jumped like a frog. Lastly, we worked on colors, and collaboratively created color murals to represent each character in the story. For math, we worked on number identification and used counting bears to work on counting with one-to-one correspondence. We love to work on letter identification with letter bears! "'A' bear, 'A' bear, what do you see? I see 'H' bear looking at me..." We read the book, We're Going on a Bear Hunt (Rosen & Oxenbury). Then, we retold the story by pretending to go on a bear hunt, just like to book! This is now one of our favorite books! Try making a fun bear snack!
