In our afternoon pre-K class, Mrs. Cook visited, and taught children about the occupation of being a nurse. She taught us how she helps the community, job responsibilities, what she wears to work, and some tools/materials that she uses to do her job as a nurse. Mrs. Cook even gave students some of the tools/materials including: surgical face masks, tongue depressors, and medicine dispenser cups. Later in the day at the dramatic play learning center, students pretended to dress up as a nurse, and played with the nurse and doctor puppets.

"W" is the letter of the week! Students are learning to identify "W", the sound it makes, and how to write "W".
Practice writing "W" at home: - Start at the top! (Look for Smiley) - Big line - Big line - Big line - Big line "W" is wonderful! We are 100 days smarter!
We enjoyed exercising and counting to 100 with Jack Hartman's "Let's Get Fit-Count to 100" video on the smart board. We admired the 100th Day Projects made by students in Miss Phelan's kindergarten class. We read "The Kiss Box," a story where Mama Bear and Little Bear make each other a kiss box, filled with one hundred kisses, and are able to stay connected no matter where they are. We got a Hershey kiss candy, and made a Hershey kiss craft that helped students work on writing their name. Students also made crowns/hats with the number 100! For Valentine's Day, preschoolers made special "LOVE" hand print signs for our families. Students made valentines for our pre-K buddies at the Bucks Hill Pre-K at the Annex in Waterbury, a class that we are partnered with this year. During art enrichment with Mrs. Sweet, we stamped hearts on heart-shaped paper using toilet paper tubes. At the art learning center, we also made coffee filter hearts, which look so pretty in our classroom windows. Mrs. Greenwood, a community volunteer, read us a special Valentine's Day story. We worked on "I love..." writing prompts. Children were very excited to "mail" valentines to their friends, and open valentine cards at home. We learned and sang some valentine songs (see links below). I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day!!
We worked on letter "N". "N" is for numbers! At the math learning center, students worked on number identification as they "fished" for magnetic numbers. At a writing learning center, preschoolers worked on writing numbers 1-10 in their "My Numbers Book".
Students learned how to write letter "N": -Start at the top! (look for Smiley) -Big line (down) -Jump back up! -Big line (down) -Big line (up) We read "Polar Bear, Polar, Bear, What Do You Hear?" and "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" by Eric Carle and Bill Martin Jr. During whole group circle time and at the literacy learning center, students used both pictures on a magnet board and a "clank can" to work on retelling the story "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?"
Preschool students had an opportunity to visit the artwell classroom to paint with Mrs Sweet during art enrichment. Students painted beautiful "snow" pictures! Children worked on holding their paintbrush just as they would hold a crayon or marker (thumb is bent, pointer points to the tip, tall man uses it's side; I tuck my last two fingers in and take them for a ride).
Pre-K students had lots of fun learning letter "M"! We worked on sorting and patterning with M&M's at the math learning center! We made marble painted mittens, and decorated an "M" with M&M's at the art learning center. We had a music learning center throughout the week, and did music enrichment with Mrs. Bills. Students also explored magnets, and matched mittens through hands-on learning.
Students learned all about hibernation! We read picture books, watched a non fiction video on BrainPopJr, watched a Sesame Street video, and used creativity and fine motor skills to make a hibernation craft at the art learning center. Our hibernation art is displayed in the hallway near the pre-K classroom!
