Quenten and Grayson's Mommy visited today, and helped us make stepping stones!!! We formed the first letter of our names by pushing glass beads into clay circles and squares. We can't wait to see what they look like after they are baked in the kiln (a big, hot oven). We will beWe are so lucky to have this opportunity! Thank you VERY much, Mrs. Doran!

We love farm animals!! We brainstormed animals that live on a farm, the sounds they make, and sang Old MacDonald Had a Farm. Preschoolers created their own farm scenes with pictures and words. We learned The Three Little Pigs story, and made pig crafts! Children played and pretended to build their own farms In the block center and sensory table. Students enjoyed many farm books in the reading center. Children also liked learning the names of baby animals with the Baby Animals Song. Here are some fun farm animal games to play on your computer at home: Farm Find & Count, Create An Animal Farm, and Animal Farm Game. Try making pig pancakes at home. You will need: pancakes, chocolate chips and/or blueberries. Yum! As a reward for filling the warm fuzzy jar, our class voted on having show and tell! We had show and tell during our whole group circle time. Show and tell fosters oral language by building vocabulary, and self-expression. Students shared all sorts of neat things from home and from our classroom. We are working on filling the warm fuzzy jar again!!! Thanks to our friend Zeb, we have been watching for the praying mantis egg case to hatch into about 100-200 tiny mantises! We looked at pictures of praying mantises on our smart board, and have been looking at the praying mantis egg case with magnifying glasses. We learned that at rest, the insect holds it's legs together in a "prayer" position, and that's why they have the name praying mantis! How cool! Thank you, Zeb!!! The 26th letter is letter Z of course!! We are very proud to be working on the very last letter of the alphabet! Today, we did Starfall Letter Z on the smart board, made zebra crafts, and learned the Five Little Zebras fingerplay. Five Little Zebras Five little zebras at the zoo door. One ran away, and then there were four. Four little zebras saying, “Neeee, neee!” One jumped away, and then there were three. Three little zebras, here’s someone new It’s a lion! Now, there are two. Two little zebras, watch them run. One was faster, now there is one. One little zebra, looking for his friends. The zebra said, “Come back again!” Zoo animal crackers and zucchini bread are fun letter Z snacks! Jack Be Nimble Jack be nimble Jack be quick Jack jump over The candlestick (Your name) be nimble (Your name) be quick (Your name) jump over the candlestick We took great care of our sunflowers and marigolds, which sprouted into little seedlings! Then, students gave them to their Mom's or Grandma's for Mother's Day! "I’m your little flower, Mom, Please help me grow and bloom, Take the weeds but leave the roots, And give me lots of room, Mom, you are my gardener, My sunshine and my rain, Too much will make me wither, With enough, I’ll bloom again, I am your little flower, Mom, I’m different from the rest, Don’t pick me Mom, just help me grow, To be my very best!" We had lot's of fun learning about the five senses in preschool!!! We built a five senses teddy bear. Our teddy bears were complete with bells on the ears for hearing, a perfume-scented pom pom as a nose for smelling, raffia on the paws for touching, and a stick of bubble gum as a tongue for tasting. A great book about the five senses that we read is Me and My Senses by Joan Sweeney. For the sense of taste, we had fun tasting bitter (grapefruit juice), sweet (mini oreos), salty (pretzels), and sour (sour patch watermelons). For touch, we enjoyed finger painting with texture paint. Sand, glitter, and shaving cream was mixed with the finger paint. The music center is certainly a favorite, focusing on the the sense of hearing! For fun, try the Five Senses Hearing Video at home. Who knew learning about the five senses was so much fun! Ask your child if they can remember and point to all five senses. Or, you could use the five senses to describe a food or snack. For example, popcorn smells buttery, makes a pop sound, feels bumpy, looks white, and tastes buttery! Below is a list of messy five senses activities to try at home! - Fingerpaint with yogurt or pudding. - Paint with your toes. - Make slime: 1 1/2 cups elmers glue, 1 cup cornstartch, food coloring. - Make scratch and sniff paint: 1 package cool aid, 1-2 tablespoons water. When the paint dries, scratch and sniff! We had so much fun working on the letter of the week: letter X! Four students at a time made the letter X on our circle time carpet. We played a xylophone in our music center, and made xylophone crafts. We made X-ray crafts too. We even saw pictures of Miss Rozof getting X-rays at her father's dental office, and X-rays of her teeth. Who knew the letter X could be so much fun!! |
