We learned about transportation through nonfiction BrainPop Jr. videos on the smart board, and nonfiction books. We even have a travel center in our dramatic play center. We also read The Little Engine That Could. Then, we made pattern trains by creating or continuing a pattern. Math is so much fun!!

We have been working on the letter Ff. Ff is for friendship!! We have made so many new friends in preschool, so we decided to make a friendship quilt. On BrainPOP Jr., we watched a friendship video. Some important things that we learned from the video include: who can be a friend, how to start a friendship, and how to be a kind friend. We each decorated a special quilt square, and worked on writing our name. Using fine motor skills, we added various foam shapes and buttons to our quilt square. This week, we worked on the letter Ff! Students learned and sang Five Green and Speckled Frogs, a song about counting frogs as they jump into the pool. Students used counting with one-to-one correspondence to create five green and speckled frogs art. Students added details such as speckles, eyes, and a mouth to the frogs to represent their own ideas. Then, students added the numerals 1-5 to their art, working on numeral identification and numeral order. Students worked on this activity throughout the week, which combined music, movement, language arts, math, and art. For language arts, we learned how to write letter Ff. We read The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. Then, practiced writing the letter Ff on our colorful fish. We read Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss, and made fox puppets! The fox puppets helped us to retell the story, and understand characters. Combining language arts and history, we learned about Veterans Day, the American flag, and worked on writing the letter Ff. We learned the song God Bless America, and colored American flags for Veterans Day. Throughout the week, we danced to The Goldfish song by The Laurie Berkner Band to get our wiggles out! Learning the letter Ff is so much fun!! In preparation for Veterans Day, we painted American Flags in art enrichment with Mrs. Sweet!! Before painting, we did lots of math by looking at different shapes and colors on the flag. We even counted the number of white stripes, red stripes, and all the stripes. We learned that there are fifty white stars on the flag. Our American Flag artwork will be displayed for the JMS Veterans Luncheon this Friday, November 8th. Combining science, math, and literacy, we have been harvesting our sunflowers with Mrs. Wright for health and wellness enrichment! Before going outside to the garden, we read the book MY Garden by Kevin Henkes. We worked on our understanding of stories as we recalled some events from the story. Some events from the story were: "The flowers could change color... the rabbits would be chocolate rabbits... a great big jelly bean bush..." We counted the sunflowers as we cut them down from the JMS garden. We waited a week and a half for them to dry out in our classroom. Then, we used our hands to take out all the seeds from the sunflower heads. Next, we will roast and taste the sunflower seeds. We can't wait!!! A few preschool quotes: "It feels like Daddy's beard!" "It's like a shower." "Too many to count." This week, we worked on the letter Ee! For math, we counted the number of links identified on elephants. This helped us work on counting with one-to-one correspondence, and numeral identification. For literacy, we matched uppercase and lowercase letters on plastic eggs. We learned how to write an upper case and lower case Ee, and wrote them on envelopes. Then, we drew a picture of something that begins with Ee to put inside our envelopes. We also read Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss, and used our listening ears to find rhyming words. Our Ee books included words like: eagle, egg, elephant, Eddie Elf, easel, and envelope. We always work on writing our name, and identifying letters in our letter of the week books. Upper case E: Big line down Little line Little line Little line Lower case e: (Play baseball!)
